The weekend of the 18th and 19th September 2021 will see the band compete in the First Section National Finals   at The Centaur, Cheltenham Racecourse.

This will be the 4th time  in 10 years  that Unite the Union Band has qualified for First Section National Finals (previous years being 2012, 2015 and 2017). The band are excited to take part, and proud to once again  fly  the flag for Yorkshire on the national stage.

The band qualified for the National Championships after winning the Yorkishire Regional First Section in March 2020 playing  'Legacy' by Tom Davoren. (Click here to learn more).

The National Finals for 2020 were scheduled to be held in September that year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were (understandably)   cancelled. As the Regional Finals  for 2021 were also not able to take place,   the qualifiers from 2020 have been given the chance to  compete for the National title.

The test piece for the First Section is Connotations by Edward Gregson, originally commissioned for the 1977 National Championships, Championship Section.  Gregson  has previously written of the piece that:

"Connotations suggests more than one way of looking at something, an idea, and this is exactly what the piece is about"

More information about the piece, and Edward Gregsons' work can be found on his website by clicking here.

Full details about the contest and competing bands in all sections can be found on the organisers website (Kaptiol Promotions) by clicking here.

The  First Section contest is scheduled to be held on Saturday 18th September 2021  in the afternoon.
